I love reading. I’m reading ‘Dreams from my Father’ by Barak Obama. If anyone wants to comment on it, if they’ve read it already, please do.Â
Â
My favourites are contemporary fiction and biography/autobiography. Favourite authors are Tom Wolfe, Alison Lurie, Joanna Trollope, Nick Hornby, Ruth Rendell, Elisabeth George. I’ll add to the list later.
Â
I also like some science fiction. I prefer science fiction where we are still in some kind of recognizable world (as in my short story ‘Fern and the Normals’ – see Writing page), so John Wyndham is a good read. I used to enjoy historical fiction but read it less now. Anya Seton is very readable.
Â
Some favourite books are :
Â
‘The Bonfire of the Vanities’Â Tom Wolfe
Â
‘Through the Needle’s Eye’ and ‘Beginning the World’Â Karen Armstrong
Â
‘High Fidelity’ and ‘About a Boy’ Nick Hornby
Â
‘Till we Have Faces’ C S Lewis
Â
‘The Magic Carpet’Â Barbara Vine (ie Ruth Rendell)
I read Bonfire of the Vanities too (coincidence!). It was quite a long time ago but I think I can remember what I thought back then! I was put off by the way it was written at first but liked it a lot in the end and got quite involved in the story, which I was surprised by as at the start it seemed to be focussed on style and politics than a story.
Also, I can’t help but notice there’s still quite a few pages on this site you haven’t written yet. Get on with it…or have less pages
Thankyou for your comments, Anne. I’m sorry you have ANOTHER criticism of my pages. I’ll get on with it as you suggest, but I may have to ban you if you don’t say something good next time. Still, it’s nice of you to write, and save me from loneliness.
